Training for Success: Gearing Up for K2 Certification
Xitron dealers in North America and Europe have been informed of K2 certification training dates, and many have reserved their spots. While we gear up to “train the trainers,” it might be a good idea to have a quick look at the nuts and bolts of K2. A lot of information can be found in the white paper, published here. But for the quick two-minute read, here’s what we’re talking about:
K2’s Power-Packed Workflow: Prepress Made Simple
K2 is a full-featured prepress workflow that comes bundled with all the options and modules needed to get jobs to press faster, easier, and with less operator intervention. Included are preflighting, ink remapping, PDF-based trapping, dynamic, integrated imposition, Raster PDF and one-bit TIFF output, and the fastest, most accurate PDF 2.0 compatible RIP in the world: Harlequin v14. It comes with five Client licenses (Mac and/or PC) so that all operators have complete access to the functionality without having to pay extra for each of those seats.
Job Submission Made Easy: The Browser-Based Game-changer
Separating K2 from the “also rans” is the browser-based Job Submission module. This unique functionality helps direct jobs through the system with unmatched efficiency and sets it apart from other solutions on the market.
From a simple brochure to a complex case bound book with multiple components (Dust Jacket, Cover, End Leafs, Text, Insert), PDF files are uploaded to a “project” giving the user a single place to manage assets for each job in the project.
Since it is browser-based, your systems administrator can determine who has access, from prepress operators all the way to CSR personnel, and none of them take up any of the Client licenses. K2 does not require a Server OS, or a super strong CPU. We recommend Windows 11 Pro on a Core i7 with at least 16 GB of RAM and a 1TB drive.
Output Perfection: K2 Plays Well with Every Platesetter
When it comes to output, no system is more adroit than K2. It really doesn’t matter if your platesetter is from Kodak, Fujifilm, Heidelberg, Agfa, Cron, Amsky, or Screen. K2 can either drive it directly through a Xitron USB interface or through the existing TIFF catcher in front of the engine.
No Surprises: One-Time License, Low Maintenance Costs
And in case you’re wondering, K2 is not a subscription-based package. That means you don’t end up re-buying the software through monthly payments every two to three years. It’s a perpetual license you pay for once. Plus, annual support and upgrade costs are extremely low in comparison to other workflow systems.
